Disbursements from the Smuts Memorial Fund: Notice

The Board of Managers of the Smuts Memorial Fund beg leave to report to the University, in accordance with Regulation 6 for the Fund (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 821), that they have made disbursements from the Fund in the financial year 1996-97 as follows:

(a) Smuts Postdoctoral Research Fellow in African Studies: Stipend and recruitment costs 25,051
(b) Smuts Visiting Fellows, 1996-97: emoluments and expenses 25,574
(c) Editorial payments 825
(d) Grants to Faculty, Department, and Centre Libraries 8,410
(e) Grants for travel and research, including a grant of £2,700 to the Mary Euphrasia Mosley Fund in respect of travel by undergraduates 49,224
(f) Grants for the purchase of audio-visual equipment and related consumables for use in fieldwork 1,499
(g) Grants to Departments and other institutions 6,000
TOTAL 116,583
