Report of the General Board on the Herchel Smith Professorship of Biochemistry

The General Board begs leave to report to the University as follows:

1. This Report proposes that Professor Eric Miska, currently Herchel Smith Professor of Molecular Genetics, be appointed to the currently vacant Herchel Smith Professorship of Biochemistry, following his appointment as Head of the Department of Biochemistry. These arrangements have the support of Professor Miska and the Head of the School of the Biological Sciences.

2. Elections to Professorships are made by a Board of Electors in accordance with Part B of Special Ordinance C (vii) unless they fall within one of exceptions listed in Section 1 of that Special Ordinance (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 82). The General Board is proposing that an exception be made in this case to enable Professor Miska, in effect, to exchange one Professorship for another. In order to make an exception to a provision in Special Ordinance, a Report must be published, enabling members of the University and the Colleges to comment on the proposal before the submission of a Grace seeking its approval.

3. The General Board recommends that Professor Eric Miska, JN, be appointed to the Herchel Smith Professorship of Biochemistry for a single tenure, the appointment to take effect from the date of Professor Miska’s resignation from the Herchel Smith Professorship of Molecular Genetics.
