The Council submits the following Graces to the Regent House. These Graces, unless they are withdrawn or a ballot is requested in accordance with the regulations for Graces of the Regent House (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 111), will be deemed to have been approved at 4 p.m. on Friday, 3 October 2025. Further information on requests for a ballot or the amendment of Graces is available to members of the Regent House on the Regent House Petitions site.§
1. That on the nomination of the Council and notwithstanding Regulation 1 of the Ordinance for the University Advocate and Deputy University Advocates (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 692), Dr Martin Steinfeld, HH, be reappointed University Advocate for four years from 1 October 2025.1
2. That on the nomination of the General Board, Mr Jeremy Lloyd Caddick, EM, be reappointed to the panel of Student Discipline Officers for three years from 1 October 2025.
3. That on the nomination of the General Board, Mr David John Goode , W, be reappointed to the panel of Student Discipline Officers for three years from 1 October 2025.
4. That on the nomination of the General Board, Ms Claire McCauley be reappointed to the panel of Student Discipline Officers for three years from 1 October 2025.
5. That a Bill Cornish Memorial Fund be established in the University, to be governed by the following regulations:2
1. The funds given to the University in memory of Professor William ‘Bill’ Cornish, together with such other sums as may be received or applied for the same purpose, shall form an endowment fund called the Bill Cornish Memorial Fund to offer financial support to students to research intellectual property law at the University.
2. The Managers shall be responsible for the administration of the Fund and the application of its income and shall comprise the Herchel Smith Professor of Intellectual Property Law and two members appointed by the Faculty Board of Law for such period or periods as the Faculty Board shall determine.[1] Unless the Faculty Board otherwise directs, the Chair shall be the Herchel Smith Professor of Intellectual Property Law. Should the Herchel Smith Professor be on leave in a given year or otherwise unavailable, an alternative Manager shall be appointed by the Faculty Board of Law for the relevant period.
3. Subject to Regulation 4, the income of the Fund shall and (if the Managers think fit) the capital of the Fund may be applied to provide full or partial studentships or other forms of financial support to doctoral students in the field of intellectual property law in such manner as the Managers think fit.
4. Any unexpended income in any financial year may, at the discretion of the Managers, be carried forward for use as income in accordance with Regulation 3 in any one or more subsequent financial years.
[1] The Faculty Board has agreed that it will normally appoint these two Managers from among the teaching officers in the Centre for Intellectual Property and Information Law until further notice.
6. That in the Ordinance for Regent House Membership under Special Ordinance A (i) (f) (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 110), the following new category of membership be added:3
(vi)holders of the appointments of Acting Vice-Chancellor, Acting Commissary and Acting Registrary.
7. That with effect from 1 October 2027, in Regulation 7 of the Ordinance for Affiliated Students (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 162) the references to the Land Economy Tripos be replaced with references to the Environment, Law, and Economics Tripos.4
8. That Regulation 1(d) of the Ordinance for the Council of the School of Arts and Humanities (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 595) be amended to read as follows:5
(d)persons co-opted by the Council of the School to serve until 31 December either of the year in which they are co-opted or of the following year, as the Council shall determine at the time of their co‑optation, provided that it shall not be obligatory for the Council to co-opt any person or persons;
9. That the BP Foundation McKenzie Professorship of Earth Sciences be retitled
the McKenzie Professorship of Earth Sciences and a reference to the Professorship in
Regulation 3 in the Ordinance for the BP Foundation Fund for Earth Sciences be updated to
reflect the revised name.6
